An AI-powered trend intelligence platform that helps fashion merchandisers make faster, data-driven product decisions.
Try the prototype ↗FashIQn is an AI-powered trend intelligence platform designed to help fashion merchandisers make faster, data-driven product decisions.
The challenge was to create an intuitive dashboard that simplifies complex trend, sales, and market data into actionable insights for users working in fast-paced retail environments. With trends constantly shifting across social media, search platforms, and competitor activity, the platform needed to balance advanced analytics with a clean, easy-to-navigate experience.
The solution was a modular AI Trend Dashboard focused on clarity, speed, and usability. By combining real-time trend tracking, visual analytics, and interactive data exploration, users can quickly identify emerging opportunities and respond confidently to market changes.
The scalable design system ensures the platform can evolve with new datasets, alerts, and intelligence tools while maintaining a seamless user experience.
Fashion merchandising is fast-paced, data-heavy, and constantly changing. Merchandisers are expected to identify emerging trends, analyse consumer behaviour, and make product decisions quickly, often while managing information from multiple disconnected platforms.
With trends shifting rapidly through social media, search behaviour, and retail performance data, it can become difficult to keep up with what is truly relevant.
This overload of information can lead to delayed decisions, missed opportunities, and uncertainty in product planning. Merchandisers often lack a single, clear system that transforms complex data into fast, actionable intelligence.
Through user interviews, surveys, and competitor analysis, I set out to understand how fashion merchandisers track trends today, and what would help them decide faster.
Before drawing screens, I organised the platform around the jobs merchandisers do every day. Each area is a module that can grow with new datasets, alerts and intelligence tools.
Focused on clarity, speed, and usability, the dashboard combines real-time trend tracking, visual analytics, and interactive data exploration so users can quickly identify emerging opportunities and respond confidently to market changes.
A live trend radar puts what is emerging right now at the top, pulling social, search and retail signals into one calm view.
Every trend has a clear story: interest across sources, a forecast, and an AI insight that says what to do next.
Merchandisers can compare against competitors, switch region, category or channel, and spot patterns in a heatmap.
A dedicated feed flags the moment a trend crosses a threshold, so nothing important gets missed between check-ins.
The outcome of FashIQn is a clickable prototype of the app. Browse trends, change the time range, compare against competitors and manage alerts, just as a merchandiser would.
In usability testing, merchandisers found trends and their next actions faster, and with more confidence, than in their usual multi-tool workflow. Testers repeatedly pointed to the clear charts and the AI insight cards as the most useful parts.
Designing with complex data taught me that clarity is a design decision, not decoration. Every chart, label and colour had to earn its place, and I learned to test early with real merchandisers instead of assuming what “simple” meant to them. Next time I would involve engineers sooner, to shape what the AI insights can realistically say.
The modular design system leaves space for new datasets, alerts and intelligence tools, so FashIQn can keep evolving without losing its clarity.
